Zehal-e miskin

Zehal-e miskin makun taghaful, duraye nainan banaye battiyan;
Ki taab-e hijran nadaram ay jaan, na leho kaahe lagaye chhattiyan.

Cho sham’e sozan cho zarra hairan hamesha giryan ba ishq aan mah;
Na neend naina na ang chaina na aap hi aaven na bhejen pattiyan.

Yakayak az dil basad farebam baburd chashm-ash farar-o taskin;
Kise pari hai jo ja sunaave pyare pi ko hamari battiyan.

Shaban-e hijran daraz chun zulf waroz-e waslash cho umr kotah;
Sakhi piya ko jo main na dekhun to kaise kaatun andheri rattiyan.

(Bahaqq-e roz-e wisal-e dilbar ki daad mara ghareeb Khusrau;
Sapet man ke waraaye raakhun jo jaaye paaon piya ke khattiyan.)

My state of misery dismiss not, making eyes and weaving tales
My peace has flown; ah absent Love, why not me to your bosom take?

A tossed lamp-flame, a little helpless, falling always in the fire of love
Sleepless eyes, restless body: neither come you, nor send word.

Sudden, my heart -- by tricks thousand, of eyes' blandish -- robbed
But who would care, to go report, my side of the story to my Love?

Nights of separation dark as your tresses; our days together short like Life
Friend, how can I, not seeing my Love, pass the dark hours of these nights?

(By honorable day meeting Beloved, who long tortures poor Khusrau
Mind suppressed, living in wait -- to find someday Love's missives to me.)
